To enter basic information about the customer such as contact information, address, phone and fax numbers, sales tax ratand beginning balances, select the General tab in the Maintain Customers/Prospects window

Customer/Prospect header fields
This is a code that you use to identify the current customer's account with you. When you make an electronic payment to the customer, this number appears on the payment and is included in the information forwarded to the third-party processor of electronic payments.
This field gives you the name of the bill-to contact, that is, the primary contact for this customer. The first contact that you enter for a customer will automatically be made the Bill-to Contact and that contact will be assigned the Bill to address, which is created automatically from the address information you enter on the General tab.
If you need to change the name of the Bill-to Contact, you can do so on the Contacts tab.
Enter the Billing Address for this customer. This address will be used as the default billing address on transactions for this customer. It will also be applied to the first contact that you create on the Contacts tab. If you edit the Bill To address on the General tab, it will automatically be updated on both tabs.
Enter the country where the individual or company to be billed resides.
Enter the sales tax ID that applies to this customer. To display a list of existing sales tax IDs, type ? in this field, or select the drop-down arrow. To add a new sales tax ID, select Maintain, then Sales Taxes, and use the wizard.
Clicking this button will copy the Billing Address information on the General tab to the Ship Address 1 fields. The shipping addresses are accessed and maintained from the Contacts tab. The contents of the billing Address, City, ST, Zip, and Country fields will be copied to the customer's Ship to Address 1.
You can use this field to create additional categories for your customers or to group similar customers together. For example, if you have customers in four regions (North, South, East, and West), you can enter "North" here to categorize certain customers as being from the north. You can filter some Accounts Receivable reports by the Type field, making it advantageous to use this field for reporting purposes.
Enter the contact's telephone and fax numbers, including extension.
Enter the customer or contact's email address. You can enter up to 64 characters. Enter the address using the [email protected] format.
To send an email message to this customer or contact, click the Email button to the right of the Email field. Your default email program will start with this address applied in a new message.
Important! AOL is not a fully MAPI-compliant email application. If your default email system is AOL, you will not be able to send email alerts from Sage 50.
Enter the customer's Web site address on the Internet, if known. You can enter up to 64 characters. Enter the Web address using the www.company.com format. (Do enter the "http://" prefix.)
To display the customer’s Web site, click the Internet button to the right of the Web Address field. This launches your default Web browser and locates the address.
The current balance in the Maintain Customers/Prospects window displays the total of all unpaid invoices currently in the customer ledger as of the system date.
If you select the arrow button to the right of the current balance, the Customer Ledgers report for this customer will appear.
