Definitions of Files, Records, and Fields (Import/Export)

Import/Export uses files, records and fields when extracting or receiving Sage 50 data.

File: A file is a group of related records. Areas of information you can import or export are as follows:

  • Accounts Receivable
  • Accounts Payable
  • Payroll
  • General Ledger
  • Inventory
  • Jobs
  • Time/Expense (Sage 50 Premium Accounting and higher)
  • Account Reconciliation
  • All Files - for specialized importing from other software packages

Record: A record is a group of fields that contains information on one subject. When you select a file to import or export, the records that are moved are those you selected using the filter.

Fields: You import/export individual fields of information. The fields that are imported are the fields that were included when you used the Export button and selected the Include Headings option on the Export tab.
