Void an Existing Credit Memo

How Do I...

Use the following procedure to delete a customer credit memo.

Note: If the credit memo was entered in the Receive Money window—that is, it is not applied directly to an existing invoice—you will first have to delete the receipt before you can void the related credit memo.

  1. From the Tasks menu, select Credit Memos.
  2. To find and select the memo you want to void, click the List button, and select the desired memo.
  3. Now, click the Delete toolbar button; and from the drop-down menu, select Void.
  4. The Void Existing Credit Memo window appears.

  5. At The credit memo will be voided as of, Sage 50 offers the system date as default void date. Accept the default, or enter a new date.
  6. Click OK..

Sage 50 automatically does the following:

  • voids the credit memo and issues a zero-dollar receipt to cover both the original and voided entries
  • makes an entry for this transaction in the Cash Receipts Journal

Note: When you view the voided credit memo in the Credit Memos window, you'll notice that it has the same number as your original memo but with a "V" appended to it. Also, a large "Void" notice appears in red letters.
All totals and subtotals for the memo appear as negative values.
