Void Existing Checks
This window appears when you choose Void Checks from the Tasks menu or click Void in the Payments,Write Checks, or Payroll Entry window.
Number: This represents the check number that has been posted but not cleared in account reconciliation.
Date: This is the date of the check.
Source: This indicates whether the check is an Accounts Payable (AP) disbursement check or a Payroll (PR) check.
Amount: This is the total check amount. For paychecks this represents the employee's net pay.
To void a listed check, first change the Void Date if different from the system date, which Sage 50 offers as the default. Then select the Void button.
When you void a check
- The original check will be marked as cleared in Account Reconciliation.
- A copy of the original check with negative amounts will be generated. The copy will be given the number of the original check plus a V. For example, if the original check was 10204, then the copy will be 10204V. (See the illustration below.)
-
When you view the check onscreen, the word Void appears in large red letters.
- The new check will be cleared in Account Reconciliation.
If you should delete the voided check. . .
If you delete the check with the appended V, Sage 50 will restore the original check. That is, it will "unvoid" it, and it will no longer be listed as cleared in Account Reconciliation.
