Change a Customer ID

Use this procedure to change an existing customer ID.

  1. Click the Customers navigation aid on the Customers & Sales Navigation Center and select View and Edit Customers.
  2. Select the customer ID you want to change and click Open. The customer record will open in the Maintain Customers/Prospects window.
  3. Select the Change ID button on the window toolbar. Sage 50 displays the Change Customer ID window.
  4. Enter the new ID that you want to use.
  5. When you are finished, click OK to change the ID and return to the Maintain Customers/Prospects window.

When you change a customer ID, all data records and transactions associated with this customer will reflect the new ID. This includes both current and past transactions.

Note: This feature is useful if you want to change the way you identify data records. For example, suppose you currently use the customer name as the customer ID. However, as your business grows, it becomes necessary to use a scheme that is more definitive than the customer name. Consequently, you decide to begin using the customer account number as the identifier. You can easily change this information using the Change ID option.
