Placeholder Text

How do I

This is a character representation of what will print in the data object. This is used to determine the maximum number of alpha or numeric characters allowed when printing the data.

Text-type data fields

Prints whatever characters you enter here when you do practice forms (for example, xXXXX). You can enter up to 300,000 characters. For fields that include multiple lines of information, press Ctrl-Enter for a new line.

Numeric data fields

Although whatever is entered here prints as placeholder text on practice forms (for example, -NNNN.nn), it is also used to format the numbers when actual data is printed. For example, even though you can print up to five decimal places on your invoice, you may want only two decimal places to print. Or, for example, on some state payroll tax returns you're required to use spaces instead of commas. Tell me more about formatting numbers.
