Set Up a New Record

In Sage 50, you can create a new record in any or each of the following ways:

  • Enter the record information in the appropriate maintenance window.
  • While working in a task window, in any field where the cursor turns into an I-bar and question mark , double-click the field or type Shift + to access the appropriate maintenance window, and then enter information needed to create the new record.

In addition, if you are entering a transaction that involves an employee, general ledger account, job , or inventoryitem ID, you can quickly set up a new record ID by following these steps:

  1. In a transaction window, go to the ID field, and enter the new record ID you want to create.
  2. The field turns dark blue and flashes three time to indicate that the record does not currently exist in the database.

  3. Continue entering transaction information; when finished, clickSave.
  4. The "Invalid ID" message appears.

  5. Click Set Up button.
  6. The appropriate maintenance window appears. For example, if you entered the ID of an employee who is not in the database, the Maintain Employees/Sales Reps window appears.

  7. Enter all pertinent information for the record you're setting up. If you need assistance, select the Help button in the toolbar at the top of the window.
  8. When finished, select Save to save the record, and close the maintenance window.

Sage 50 saves the record. The original transaction window you were working in returns.

  9. Click Save again to record the transaction.
