Freeing Up Space on Your Hard Drive
You can improve the performance of Sage 50 by freeing up space on your hard drive.
Some ways to do this are:
- Deleting files that you don't need
- Archiving old files on a disc or network and then deleting them from your computer
- Defragmenting your hard drive
Fragmented data can slow down your computer. Defragmenting your hard drive consolidates the fragmented data so that your computer can work more effectively.
How does data get fragmented?
The day-to-day functions of using your computer, such as saving files, deleting files, installing new software, and downloading files, cause data to become fragmented. Files are stored in free space on your hard drive. If the first available free space isn't big enough to hold the whole file, the file will be fragmented so that part of it fits in that free space and the rest of the file is put in the next available free space.
How do I defragment my hard drive?
To get instructions and to learn more about defragmenting your hard drive:
- Open help from Windows Explorer or go to www.microsoft.com
- Search for "using disk defragmenter".
